Grass is Greener Complex
We’ve all heard the phrase: “The grass is always greener on the other side.” There’s another quote that says, “The grass is greener where you water it.”
If you are busy focusing on what everyone else has that you do not, then you may be neglecting your own grass that has the potential to be the most green and fertile, if you were to take proper care of it. It’s natural to sometimes desire a life that’s idealistic and to dream of escaping elsewhere. Whatever the case, this mindset will only ever hinder happiness. It is easy to feel like we are trapped in our daily routine and wish for change. What do you do when life is becomes the same habits every day with no excitement? If you feel stuck in a rut, it can seem like you have no control of what’s happening. However, you are still in control and if you feel you are missing out on something, try to incorporate that into your routine or find something that can be replaced. If you spend 3 hours a night watching television, that is something you can probably adjust.
If you want to make some changes to your life or routine there are a few to consider:
Your Personal Situation: When life feels like it’s not going as you planned it, you may start thinking about how much better everyone else has it. Be sure that when you are chasing a dream it is not just running away from other problems, they will follow you. You need to resolve any issues that you may have within yourself or your circumstances. If you don’t resolve those problems, they will recur if you change jobs, move to a new city, or start a new relationship. It is important to find your inner contentment before looking for something externally to change.
Be Grateful-Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the things you dread now you once sought after. What is it that is truly making you unhappy? Most people I know don’t appreciate what they have and feel like they would be happier with someone else, working somewhere else, or living somewhere else. However, if you look at what they have and not what they don’t have. They are very lucky. They have food on their table, not just scraps but whatever they want to eat. They have a roof over their head with proper climate control. They have a closet full of clothes to choose from. It seems all they can focus on is why they can’t afford the new IPhone or a pool in their backyard.
Take Charge-If reevaluating your life and becoming more appreciative of what you have doesn’t bring you to a place of contentment then take control. You are the only person who has the power to make a change in your life. Figure out what your dreams and passions are and make a plan to obtain them. It doesn’t have to be anything big, even a small change can make a large difference. Maybe your lawn needed a little more than water, plant some flowers or trim the hedges. You may see your grass becoming greener every day.
