Happy Friday, Everyone!
In honor of Father’s day this weekend, we have a special blog from a new Grandpa!
I’ m finally a grandfather; can you believe it? My first grandchild (Sage Renae Olivia Schrag) was born at St. Joseph Via Christi in Wichita, on March 29, 2016 at around 4:30am, she weighed 6.1 pounds and was 19.5 in. long. My daughter-in-law (Ariel) had problems with high blood pressure during labor but with some caution Sage was delivered fine. Yes, I even held her in the hospital; without dropping her! Of course, I was sitting down!
A week or so later Ariel’s blood pressure was high again and after a trip to the ER they discovered two blood clots in her lungs. She has been staying in Mulvane with her parents because they are monitoring her blood pressure and medication for the blood clots. She had some pain in her chest and dizziness and tiredness from the medication. It’s been hard on my son Aaron, because he has to drive from Mulvane to his work in Hutchinson daily. It’s been hard on grandma, Betty, because she hasn’t been able to hold her granddaughter.
Sage lost a little weight, which is normal after birth, but wasn’t gaining it back, probably due to mom’s health issues, so they started to supplement her nursing with a feeding tube but she was refusing to take the tube, refusing to open her mouth and knocking the tube out of her mouth after it was inserted. I’m thinking, wow, this kid is as stubborn as her grandpa, we’re going to get along great. Sage is gaining weight now and Ariel’s blood pressure is down, we are praying her clots will dissolve soon.
